Masters Home Internationals 2025
Scotland’s top Masters players will don the national colours and take on their rivals in what promises to be another intense tournament series showcasing the best of experience, skill and camaraderie, with matches taking place in top venues across the UK and Ireland.
The Home Internationals are a highlight of the squash calendar, and this year’s competition kicks off in Galway, Ireland, before heading to Nottingham, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.

The 2025 Scotland leg of the Masters Home Internationals takes place on the 2nd and 3rd May at Edinburgh Sports Club. Scotland play hosts to the Men’s Over 45 and Over 65s, and Women’s Over 45 and Over 65 competitions.
Round Three
Double silver for the Scots!
The Women’s Over 45s final between Scotland and England provided ample drama on court 5 in round 3, going down to the final match (String 2) after a great win in five games for Jenn Saldanha had made it 2-2 in matches. The tie ended with ultimate disappointment for Scotland despite a superb effort; Kate Bradshaw beating Lisa McKenna 3-1 and sealing victory for England. Rounding off the table were Wales in third and Ireland in fourth.
The Women’s Over 65s ended with Wales finishing off a superb tournament and defeating Ireland 12-1 to clinch the title. Scotland finished with victory over England on Saturday afternoon, which included an excellent win for Pauline Douglas over Karen Hume (11-6 in the fifth game), but were just shy on points overall. England managed to hold on to second place with 23 points against Scotland’s 20, with Ireland finishing fourth on 4 points.
In the Men’s Over 65s, Scotland and England battled away for the title, with Robin Ridley taking an great win at String 1 over England’s Allen Barwise in three games. Despite this, the English proved their strength and won the other four matches, with the tie ending 17-5. Scotland finished with a strong 43 points and proudly took home the silver medal, with Wales third and Ireland fourth.
The Men’s Over 45s was won by England after a near maximum score of 58 points, with Ireland coming second after a strong showing from the boys in green. Scotland’s win over Wales in round three was enough to achieve third place on 28 points, with Wales finishing off in fourth.

Round Two
Scotland’s women’s teams both put in strong showings on Saturday morning against Ireland, recording wins of 10-3 (O65s) and 20-3 (O45s), captains Katy Temple and Pauline Douglas leading the way at String 1. This was a crucial win for Scotland’s Women’s Over 45s, who have kept pace on points and will face England in a deciding match in the afternoon. England remain top in the O45s by one point, but were defeated in the O65s by Wales, who have emerged favourites for the trophy after an intense morning battle with the English team finished 11-5 in their favour.
In the Men’s draws, Scotland were narrowly defeated by Ireland in the O45s, 9-8 in games and 14-8 overall. A fantastic result for Chris Gray of Watsonians defeating Irish number 1 Derek Ryan was a highlight for Scotland despite the loss. Scotland face England in their final match, with the latter looking strong with 38 points to top the O45s table. Meanwhile Scotland’s Over 65s marched on with another superb win, 20-2 over Ireland. They are in a great position for silverware with a round 3 deciding match against England upcoming.

Round One
The Home Internationals got off to a lively start on Friday night with a great atmosphere at Edinburgh Sports Club.
Scotland’s Men’s teams came out strongly, emerging victorious against Wales twice, 17-7 winners in the O65s and 17-6 winners in the O45s, the latter featuring two superb five-set wins by Grant Gray and Andrew Spiers, and a fantastic debut win for Robert Blair in the MO65s, winning his third string match 11-7 in the fifth. England also completed two convincing wins over Ireland 20-0 (O65s) and 18-6 (O45s) for a confident start.
In the Women’s events, it was another strong home performance for the Scottish O45s, who tallied a 19-5 win over the Welsh – the first string match of Helen Barnard against Scottish captain Katy Temple going the way of the Welsh in a 2-3 battle. Scotland’s only defeat in round one came in the Women’s O65s, with a strong Welsh team taking a 1-12 win and Pauline Douglas earning a point for the Scots.
Well done to all teams on a great start and looking forward to round two in the morning, featuring Scotland vs Ireland and Wales vs England across all age groups.

MHI Ireland, 10 – 11 April 2025
The Scottish Masters achieved a superb double victory at Galway Lawn Tennis Club, with the Men’s Over 75s and Women’s Over 55s emerging triumphant in their age categories. This was a fantastic result for both squads, led by captains Ian Ross and Donna Cruickshank who secured three wins apiece.
The Men’s Over 55s also had a great run and only narrowly lost out to England, finishing in second place. The Men’s Over 35s faced strong opposition throughout and despite some battling performances and a high level of squash, finished up in 4th place.

MHI England, 25 – 26 April 2025
The second leg of the Home Internationals for 2025 took place in England at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club. It was a tough set of fixtures for the Scots this time round, with the Men’s Over 50s scoring well but coming up in third place and the Men’s Over 70s and Women’s Over 50s finishing in 4th place. Well done to the players and thanks to England Squash Masters for hosting a great weekend.

MHI Wales, 9 – 10 May 2025
The final leg of the Masters Home Internationals for 2025 took place in Cardiff, Wales. Scotland were well represented with both experienced players and some new faces. The Scottish Women’s Over 35/40s and Over 60s, and the Men’s Over 60s, each finished in third place despite scoring well, on each occasion behind England (1st) and Wales (2nd). The Men’s Over 40s were unlucky to lose out to Ireland in round 3 by one game, losing the ties 15-9, and finished in fourth place. Well done to all players. Full results via the Squash Wales website.
