Coach Development 

Behind every great squash player is a great coaching team, and in Scotland, we have inspirational coaching assistants, coaches and lead coaches delivering at all levels, from grassroots squash through to players representing their country at junior, senior and masters level.

Our coaching pathway gives coaches the ability to shape their own coaching career, from our Squash Activator Award helping you to assist at your local club and introduce more players to the game through to the Squash Coach Award which helps you lead sessions and inspire the next generation of squash players.

Courses we deliver:

Scottish Squash Leaders Award

“I want to introduce squash to my school, college or university setting or deliver beginner sessions in a leisure centre.”

This course aims at introducing candidates to the basic skills required to support a schoolsquash programme. It is ideal for delivery in schools, colleges, universities and leisure centres, and will introduce candidates to our interactive schoolsquash resource which provides leaders with lots of fun games-based approaches to teaching squash.

It is a great course for young aspiring coaches who are new to squash or looking to introduce it to a new setting.

Squash Activator Award

“I want to get people playing squash and having fun by supporting coaching sessions at my club.”

The Squash Activator Award prepares you to be deployed as a Coaching Assistant, or to support as a parent helper or volunteer. This one-day course is ideal if you are looking to develop your confidence in supporting sessions, or want to introduce friends and family to the game. This course is perfect for anyone who is keen to help out with the coaching or increase participation at your local club or facility.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, candidates must be 14 years old or above, unless through agreement with organising club.

Squash Coach Award

“I want to plan, lead and deliver coaching sessions to help players develop.”

The Squash Coach Award has been developed as a Scottish Coaching Certificate Level 6 course (equivalent to a Scottish Higher). This two-day course blended with online elements gives coaches the skills they need to deliver safe, well-planned and engaging sessions. It gives them to confidence to deploy Activators and begin top develop their Coaching Philosophy. This course allows candidates to develop the skills required to identify areas for development, and help develop a new generation of squash players – from grassroots players through to top club players.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, candidates must be 16 years old or above and should have a basic level of squash knowledge.

Advanced Squash Coach Award

“I want to lead a coaching team, specialise and coach players to a high level.”

Expected launch in 2027-28

Scottish Squash Coach Licence 

Scottish Squash launched a new Coach Licence in November 2019. All qualified coaches working within squash in Scotland are required to hold a Coach Licence.

The Coach Licence will allow regions, clubs, players and parents to be sure that all coaches are operating under the correct governance.
