Junior and Senior Selection Criteria Published for 2026/27

Scottish Squash is pleased to announce the release of the official selection procedures and criteria for both junior and senior national squads for the 2026/27 season. These updated policies outline the pathway for athletes striving to represent Scotland at major international competitions, and reinforce Scottish Squash’s commitment to fair, transparent selection processes while inspiring players at every level.

For junior players, selection will be based on top 3 performances across a series of designated events, including the Scottish Junior Open 2026, Scottish Junior National Championships, the British National Championships, and two Scottish PERFORM Junior Gold competitions, the first of which takes place next month at Bridge of Allan Sports Club [Enter Here]. The season’s highlights for junior representative teams include an opportunity to compete at the European Under 17 and Under 19 Team Championships, and the 5 Nations Championships for U13 and U15 age groups.

Junior Pathway Manager and Coach Kylie Lindsay said, ‘Announcing the junior selection criteria is an exciting stage as we look ahead to the new season. Our focus this year is providing a major event opportunity for each of the junior age groups competing at European level, giving aspiring players a chance to represent their country and gain valuable international experience in their promising squash careers.’

Senior players will also compete for places on the national team through PSA World Tour rankings and results from domestic PERFORM Senior Gold tournaments in Edinburgh and Dumfries, the first of which takes place at Watsonian SRC from 09-11 October [Enter Here]. The top Scottish athletes will aim to secure selection for the European Team Championships in spring 2027.

In 2026, Scotland achieved 8th and 4th place finishes in the Division 1 European Men’s and Women’s events, respectively. Scottish Squash Head of Performance & Pathway, Paul Bell, spoke of the opportunities and prospects for senior players this season.

‘As we head into to a post-Greg and Rory era, there is an exciting opportunity for the next generation of Scots to step up and show what they can do on the European stage. This selection criteria is in place to ensure we can select the strongest team available as well as provide the right opportunity for young senior players. The women’s team will be hoping to build on the recent success at European level and take the final step towards the podium.’
