Young Scots secure 10th at European Mixed Teams Championships

Scotland’s U19s secured 10th position at the European Mixed Team Championships which ran from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th April in Krakow.

The pool stage got off to the toughest possible start, with a match against defending champions – and eventual winners – France.

The French – who boast Europe’s individual boys and girls champions in their ranks – proved too strong for the Scots who gave their all in a 4-0 defeat.

The second and final pool stage match against Czechia ended in a 3-1 defeat, with Archie Turnbull putting a Scottish point on the board.

That left the young Scots fighting for 9th position, with a 3-1 win over Norway delivered by Ella Bannister, Rebecca Little and Archie.

Hungary were beaten by the same scoreline, with wins from Murdo Mackenzie, Rebecca and Archie setting up a final match with hosts Poland.

Murdo and Archie put points on the board, but ultimately a points count back saw Poland take 9th and the Scots with a hard-fought 10th place finish.

Coach Martin Woods said: “The 2026 Under 19 European Team Championships was a great experience for the cream of our junior talent.

“Every player gave their best for Scotland and showed great behaviour and discipline throughout the event.

“This tournament marked the end of Archie’s time as a junior, as he now progresses into the senior ranks.

“Our trio of Murdo, Ella and Rebecca, however, are all still eligible to play next year’s event.

“Special mention in particular to Rebecca, who made a sensational debut in the U19 event at the age of 15!”

Well done to Archie, Ella, Murdo and Rebecca for flying the flag with pride across four highly competitive days of squash!
