Junior Inter-Regionals Report: Every Region on the Podium
The Junior Inter-Regional Championships once again delivered a fantastic start-of-season atmosphere last weekend, as 24 teams of juniors from across Scotland competed in five age categories. More than 100 players made their way to Scotland’s National Performance Centre at Oriam, Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) to showcase their talents at the major hub of Scottish sport. This year’s event highlighted both the growth of the competition, with new additions of teams from Grampian (U17), Highlands & Islands (U11) and Central (U15 & U17).

Inspiration: Georgia Adderley presenting medals to Scotlands rising stars
The presentations on Sunday included a special visit from Scottish No.1 and World Ranked #22, Georgia Adderley, who spoke of her experience at the event and offered some words of encouragement for the young crowd.
At the medal ceremony, it was a clean sweep for West of Scotland in first place, an impressive feat highlighting the strength of the junior programme spearheaded by Team Manager Martin Woods, with the West U15 team in particular showing prowess, ending the weekend undefeated on a maximum score of 64 points. However, Central, West, Highlands & Islands, Grampian and East all remain in close attention, each earning medals in at least one age category, underlining the spread of junior squash talent across the country.
The U13s proved one of the most tightly contested categories, with Highlands & Islands and Grampian battling on Sunday morning for second place. The match ended 9-9 in games after three five-setters, but the 3-1 match score was enough for Grampian to take the bonus points in one of the closest ties of the weekend.
Elsewhere, Highlands & Islands proudly took the silver in the U19s, their team led by 16 year old Zack Paton (Nairn Squash Club), while Central’s U11 and majority-girls team achieved a superb 52 points in second place. In the U15 and U17 categories, East of Scotland scored strongly to achieve a double medal finish, only losing out to West for the top spot. View the full results from the tournament here.
A promising season lies ahead for the juniors, with several players looking to make an impression at the upcoming British Junior Championships and the Scottish Junior Open 2025. Performances at the Inter-Regionals were a positive sign, and Scottish Squash wish the players well translating their team success into personal achievement.
