New Club Support Programme to Strengthen Squash Clubs Across Scotland
Following last week’s exciting launch of the Wee Smashers programme, Scottish Squash is delighted to announce another club initiative made possible through sportscotland’s Club Support Programme.
The funding allows the programme to support seven lead clubs and initially circa 18 feeder clubs from across Scotland, helping them to strengthen their coaching programmes, development of future coaches, strengthening community engagement and creating more opportunities for people to get involved in squash.
“This is a very exciting time for Scottish Squash and the clubs and participants in Scotland,” said Jennifer Barsby, Head of Development at Scottish Squash.
“With this boost of funding into clubs across the country, we are confident this will build on the great work currently being done and help clubs reach their full potential, while allowing more opportunities for people to get involved in the great sport of squash. This comes off the back of our announcement last week that we are launching a new free junior coaching programme for our clubs called Wee Smashers.”
The seven clubs are located within different regions across Scotland with the aim of developing the sport nationally while maximising the impact of the available funding. Furthermore, the clubs will also initially support circa 18 local clubs within their respective regions, extending the programme’s reach to boost engagement and achieve a wider impact across the squash community.
The Club Support Programme has received funding for three years and the seven lead clubs include: Bridge of Allan SC, Dalgety Bay SC, Dumfries SRC, Ellon Meadows SC, Grange SC, Scottish Squash RC and Sutherland SC.
The key priorities of the Club Support Programme are to make the clubs stronger, safer, more sustainable and more inclusive. The appointment of qualified coaches will play a key role in helping clubs achieve these aims. The experiences and learnings gained as the programme develops will also help shape Scottish Squash’s wider approach to club development across Scotland.
Scottish Squash is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the Club Support Programme. For more information and to apply for a coaching position, please visit the Scottish Squash website, here.
The Summer of Sport funding comes from a £20 million investment by the Scottish Government, to get more people active and engaged in sport. £5 million has been allocated to Club Support Programmes, with an estimate of reaching around 200 clubs across all sports.
