Get involved: Tournament Referee Experience Day at Scottish Junior Inter-regionals

Do you referee in a local league or at your club?

Have you signed up or recently completed a Calling the Shots Markers Awareness Course?

Would you like to develop your refereeing skills in a tournament setting?

We are excited to launch a new initiative, designed to strengthen the future of squash refereeing in Scotland – the Tournament Referee Experience Day – taking place at the Junior Inter-Regionals at Oriam on Saturday 20th September from 10am to 1.30pm.

What is it?

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the opportunities in refereeing – and some top tips – from Adriana Aida, one of Scotland’s top referees, with experience at European level events and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.
  • Referee matches in a supported setting, with allocations tailored to confidence and experience levels.
  • Receive constructive feedback throughout the day.
  • Take away feedback which they can take back to their club setting, as well as information on how to get involved at future events.

Why this matters?

Referees are an essential part of squash. Just as players of all ages train, compete and progress, so do referees.

This event gives aspiring officials an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a tournament environment, supporting  the ambition to develop confident and capable referees for the future.

For competitors

An experienced referee will be on hand to provide support and ensure all matches are officiated to the usual high standard.

The presence of referee trainees is an investment in the future of Scottish squash, ensuring tournaments can continue to run and thrive in the years to come.
