Scottish players aim for top showing at European Masters Championships

Scotland’s players will be hoping to make a big impression as they prepare to compete against Europe’s best at the 2025 ESF European Masters Individual Squash Championships.

Nine Scots will compete at the biennial event, which gets underway tomorrow (27th August) at the 32 court Hasta La Vista club in Wroclaw.

With over 600 entrants, the competition will provide a stern test for all – with European and World level pedigree in the field.

Amongst those leading the Scottish charge is Pauline Douglas – who was crowned World Masters champion in 2024.

This will be her first European Masters since that triumph, and she will be aiming for a strong showing in the over 70s.

Pauline is joined by a big contingent of Scottish players across several age groups:

• Bernadette Beattie – over 65s
• Peter Buchan – over 55s
• Maureen Carroll – over 70s
• Donna Cruickshank – over 55s
• Werner Kittel – over 70s
• Ian Ross – over 75s
• Alex Sinclair – over 75s
• Sue Strachan – over 60s

Speaking ahead of the event, Sue Strachan said: “It’s exciting to be able to come and represent Scotland on the European stage as part of a top quality squad of players in several age groups.

“We will do our best to represent the country with pride and passion.”

The European Masters brings together Europe’s best players aged 35 and over, and there’s sure to be plenty of excitement – and top squash – before the action concludes on Saturday.
