Lobban and Adderley on top again: duo defend national titles in Inverness
The 2025 DYNAMIK Scottish Senior National Championships returned to the calendar this past weekend at Inverness Tennis and Squash Club, delivering three days of top level squash in the Highland capital. At the heart of it all, Scotland’s top-ranked professionals—Greg Lobban and Georgia Adderley— finished on top once again, successfully defending their national titles with commanding performances in front of an appreciative Highland crowd.

Lobban Makes It Five in Front of Hometown Fans
World No. 20 Greg Lobban added a fifth Scottish national title—and fourth in a row—to his name with a 3-1 victory over Rory Stewart in Sunday’s men’s final. The win carried extra meaning for the 32-year-old, who learned to play the game on the same courts where he reigned supreme on Sunday.
After navigating early rounds with relative ease, Lobban faced a sterner test in the semifinals against European teammate Rory Richmond, where he dropped his first game of the tournament. But the final demanded his best: Lobban came out strong, taking the opening two games 11-7 before Stewart bounced back with some accurate finishing to take game three. However, Lobban responded with trademark control and experience, taking the fourth 11-8 to close out the match.
“It goes without saying that I’m happy to win the Scottish National title this past weekend,” said Lobban afterward. “I’ve been the number one seed for a few years in a row now and it’s not easy staving off training partners and friends. It’s always a difficult tournament. Thanks to Scottish Squash, Dynamik Flooring & Inverness for hosting the tournament, I believe it’s really important that the National Championships are held all over the country to showcase our top players and premier event. It was special having it at home and the first time in the Highlands for myself.”
Georgia Adderley Clinches Fourth Crown in Style
On the women’s side, World No. 22 Georgia Adderley proved untouchable as she claimed her fourth national title with a straight-games win over European teammate and 2023 champion Alison Thomson: 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 in the deciding match. Adderley didn’t drop a single game throughout the tournament, underlining her dominance as Scotland’s leading female player, and showcased to the crowd her relentless work rate on court combined with pure shotmaking, which included a stunning overhead winning shot in the final game.
“I’m super happy to have won a fourth national title this weekend,” said Adderley. “It was a great weekend of squash in the men’s and women’s draws and good atmosphere in Inverness all weekend. I was happy with my performance all weekend and really pleased to come away with the title!”
Heartbreak for Prott in Quarterfinal Exit
Local star Alasdair Prott saw his title hopes dashed prematurely in the men’s quarterfinals after suffering an unfortunate injury that forced him to retire from his match. The 23-year-old, a homegrown talent from Inverness, came third place in 2023 and 2024, but was gutted to exit at 5-8 in the fifth game versus Jamie Henderson in what had been a superb back and forth battle. Prott will be looking to bounce back in the coming months and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Sister Rivalry in Women’s 3/4 Playoff
One of the weekend’s most heartwarming and unique moments came in the women’s third-place playoff, as sisters Ellie and Carys Jones faced off on court. The sibling rivalry added an extra layer of intrigue to the contest with a medal on the line, with Ellie ultimately claiming the bronze medal in straight games despite some excellent points won by Carys and a clear show of respect between both.
Match of the Tournament: Henderson vs. Richmond for Bronze
The battle for third place in the men’s draw between Jamie Henderson and Rory Richmond stole the show on Sunday as the tournament’s standout thriller. In a match filled with momentum shifts, Richmond—Scotland’s newest European squad member—edged Henderson, an experienced coach and former pro, 3-2 in an epic: 11-5, 7-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7.
Both players pushed each other to the limit, with Richmond’s speed and agility overcoming Henderson’s experience and composed play in the closing stages. Richmond was delighted to secure a first podium finish at the National Championships, capping off a stellar domestic season for the 20-year old.
