Katie is first to earn Gold volunteer award

We are delighted to recognise the efforts of the first Young Squash Champions Volunteering Award participant to earn the Gold Award for 100 hours of volunteering in squash.

Katie Polworth from Inverness Tennis and Squash Club has worn many hats as a volunteer at her club, and has supported a range of events for existing members and new players at her local club.

Katie was also the first recipient of a Young Squash Champions volunteering award hoodie – a benefit which was requested by award participants.

Check out our Q+A with Katie:

Could you tell us about the volunteering you have been doing?

I have been helping with sports holiday camps for younger children. I also help at events at my club, sometimes serving drinks and food and also setting up equipment and planning. Also I have done some social media and other IT related things.

What do you enjoy about volunteering?

I enjoy the feeling of helping my club because I have been a member since I was very young and lots of people at the club have helped me. Its nice to be able to be the person that is helping others now.

What would you say to other people thinking about volunteering?

I would definitely tell them to volunteer because there are so many different ways you can get involved such as coaching or helping with events and lots of other things they could do to help their club. Even just little things can make a big difference.

What has been the highlight of your time volunteering at the squash club?

My best moments helping at the squash club has been getting to meet professional squash players when they have come for events. They are always happy to have a photo taken and they really appreciate being welcomed to the club with a friendly atmosphere.

What an effort Katie!
