Jim Hay receives the Services to Squash Award
Scottish Squash is to delighted to announce that Jim Hay has been awarded the Services to Squash Award. This prestigious accolade, awarded to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to squash in Scotland, was presented by Paul Macari, CEO and Paul Bell, Head of Performance & Pathway to Jim at the recent Watsonian Senior Gold tournament held at Myreside.
Jim has made an incredible contribution to the development of squash in Scotland as a player, volunteer, coach, referee and mentor. A member of Colinton Castle Squash Club for many years, Jim loves encouraging all ages to get into sport.
During his career in the Police, he served as secretary of the UK National Squash Committee and Chair of Police Scotland Squash serving with distinction for circa 30 years. Jim has been involved in Police Sport at local and national level and regularly participated in Police Squash tournaments playing at all levels up to over 55’s.
In 2011 he was appointed President of East Squash and then in 2013, elected President of Scottish Squash, a role in which he led the national governing body for 5 years during a challenging period for the organisation. Following this, Jim served as a Vice-President and board director for the European Squash federation from 2019 to 2022.
Jim has held many other voluntary roles including Chair of the Scottish Squash Referees Sub-Committee and the ESF Disciplinary Committee. He is currently Chair of the World Squash Officiating Advisory Group, is a level 2 coach, a level 2 referee and in 2018, won the Team Scotland Volunteer of the Year Award.
On accepting his award, Jim conveyed his passion for squash, his love for the Scottish squash community and his current focus on officiating and encouraging younger people to get involved in refereeing.
