2018/19 Masters Selection Criteria
Scottish Squash recently carried out a survey to gain feedback into the selection criteria that determines team selection into the Scotland Masters International teams which represent Scotland and compete at the Masters Home Internationals at the end of each season.
We received over 120 responses, and feedback provided through the survey has been incredible and we would like to thank each and everyone who took the time to provide their feedback.
The results from the survey are as follows:
Option 1 – 33.33%
Top 6 ranked players in each Scottish age group rankings. If a player(s) ranked 1-6 is/are unavailable it then continues down the rankings accordingly.
Option 2 – 31.67%
Top 5 ranked players in each Scottish age group rankings + 1 wild card member (the wild card must have played a minimum of 1 Scottish Masters sanctioned circuit event). If a player(s) ranked 1-5 is/are unavailable it then continues down the rankings accordingly. Wild card pick is at the sole discretion of the Team Captain.
Option 3 – 35.00%
Remain the same – Top 4 ranked players in each Scottish age group rankings + 2 wild card members (1 wild card must have played a minimum of 2 Scottish Masters sanctioned circuit events and the 2nd wild card has no restrictions). Wild card picks at the sole discretion of the Team Captain. If a player(s) ranked 1-4 is/are unavailable it then continues down the rankings. accordingly.
In view of the closeness of the result and that option 3 is by a small margin the more popular choice the Tournament Sub-Committee have decided to adopt Option 3 for this season.
Although the principle of the selection criteria will remain the same there is a requirement for us to update some areas of the policy. Once it has been completed the revised criteria will be published via the Scottish Squash website.
Scottish Squash recognise how close the results were and will review the situation again at the end of the coming season.
