Senior Selection Criteria

Team selections will be made by a selection panel comprising of the National Coach, Elite Performance Coach and Performance Director.

Eligibility

In order to be selected to represent Scotland a player must meet the following requirements:

  1. The player must be eligible to represent Scotland according to the rules of the Representative Event.
  2. The player must be a registered member of Scottish Squash and Racketball Limited.
  3. The National Coach will have the right to request any player who is in contention or who has been selected in a team to undergo a medical examination by a medical practitioner nominated by the National Coach. Based on the outcome of such an examination, a player may be deemed unfit for selection.
  4. All players selected must be prepared to attend a pre-event training camp in Scotland.
  5. All players must maintain open communication regarding training, progress and tournament results with the National Coach throughout the season.

Team Selection Team selections will be made by a Selection Panel comprising the National Coach, Elite Performance Coach & Performance Director.

The Team players will be selected from the following:

  • In the case of PSA players, selections will automatically be made from the World Rankings once players are ranked Top 100 in the month that selection takes place
  • Rankings which will be collated from the results in pre-selected senior ranking events, details of which will be released by the National Coach prior to the start of that season, plus the Scottish National Closed Championships.

Reserves

Travelling and Non-Travelling Reserve places will be selected by the coaches using the following criteria:

  • Play-offs/ trials will be used in exceptional circumstances
  • Final ranking position
  • The performance record of athletes in major events and in pressure situations in international tournaments
  • The player’s future potential
  • The attitude and commitment of players when preparing and competing for Scotland

Selection The CEO will disseminate the selections to the selected players immediately after the Selection Panel meets, with the exception of players who need to prove fitness

Appeals

The decision of the Selection Panel may be appealed on the following grounds:

  • Process
  • Clarification of fact
  • Provision of new and relevant information that was not available prior to selections

 Appeals on selection to be made in writing, marked “Private & Confidential”, to the Chief Executive Officer Appeals must be made within seven days following the announcement of selections. All appeals will be dealt with by an Appeals Committee comprising:

  • The Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd President (or his/her nominee)
  • The Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd Chief Executive Officer
  • A Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd Board Member nominated by the President.
  • An independent appeals committee member.

In the case of an appeal being upheld, the Appeals Committee will refer the matter back to the Selection Panel for review, along with their reasons for requiring a review.

Seniors – Women

European Team Championships – annual (3 players + 1 travelling reserve)

Top 100 PSA Ranking and remaining places to the top ranked players from the following events

  • 3 Gold Senior Events – Inverness, SSRC Glasgow & Bridge of Allan
  • Scottish National Championships 2017
  • Attend pre-event Training Camp

‘B’ Internationals – for Under-23 Players (3 Women)

3 Top Under 23 players in the final ranking list

Seniors – Men

World Team Championships – (3 players + 1 travelling reserve)

Top 100 PSA Ranking and remaining places to the top ranked players from the following events

  • 2 Gold Senior Events – Inverness & SSRC Glasgow
  • Attend pre-event Training Camp

European Team Championships – (4 players + up to 2 travelling reserves)

Top 100 PSA Ranking and remaining places to the top ranked players from the following events

  • 3 Gold Senior Events – Inverness, SSRC Glasgow & Bridge of Allan
  • Scottish National Championships 2017
  • Attend pre-event Training Camp

‘B’ Internationals – for Under-23 Players (4 men)
