DEVELOPING JUNIOR SKILLS
- The Junior Skills Awards are designed to encourage young
players by testing their ability in the basic skills of
the game and their understanding of the rules and tactics
of squash and mini squash.
- There are ascending levels: 1 star, 2 star, 3 star, bronze,
referee, silver and gold.
For 1 star and 2 star awards only:
(A) Mini and junior squash equipment and either a squash,
mini squash or foam ball can be used.
(B) The measurements given are intended as guidelines only.
(C) Testing can take place ono either a squash court or one
wall facility (e.g. school hall or gym).
- Rackets are not required for the 1 star award.
The tester for the 1 star, 2 star, 3 star and bronze awards
can be any person in charge of a junior group.
- The tester for the referee, silver and gold awards must
be a qualified coach (level 2 or higher).
- There is no need for the whole test to be taken at once,
skills can be tested separately in coaching sessions.
- All the feeding and co-operative rallies may be completed
with the coach or another player.

The packs include a Testers Chart, Attendance Sheet and Certificate
order forms, Posters and The Skills Awards Programmes.
THE JUNIOR SKILLS AWARDS
ONE STAR AWARD
The skills tested for the 1 star award are as follows:
- Throw a ball into the air, let it bounce once on the floor,
catch it after the bounce. Four out of six to pass.
- Throw a ball against a wall, let it bounce once on the
floor, catch it after the bounce. Four out of six to pass.
- Stand behind a line drawn two metres from a wall, throw
a ball onto the wall and catch it before it bounces on the
floor. Four out of six to pass.
- With a partner, have a six shot co-operative throw and
catch rally (e.g. ball to be thrown to wall above a 1 metre
line and caught by partner standing behind a 2 metre floor
line). Ball to bounce once only.
- Play a game of 'catch squash' (i.e. without rackets) to
15 points. American Scoring.
