As previously discussed in Rebounder a new
coaching structure for the United Kingdom has been developed.
Over this season the Coach Education system for Scottish
Squash will undergo a change in our drive towards a universally
recognised qualification of quality assurance. The UKCC
Squash Level 1 (Assistant Coach) will be launched in September
2007 and shall be followed during the season by the UKCC
Squash Level 2.
Courses for the Level 1 are currently being
planned for the six regions throughout Scotland see below
and further information & an application form can be
found in the Calendar of events in this website.
The current coaching certificates, held by
coaches, shall remain valid for a number of seasons over
which there shall be opportunities to move onto the new
UKCC system, where appropriate. Coaches shall be kept informed
of the validity of their certificates and the process for
transferring onto the new UKCC system through Rebounder,
the Coaching pages on the new website and additional bulletins
to all those on the Coaches Database.
In addition to the new Level 1, an Unsquashable
Mini Squash workshop, relating to the new junior development
programme, is currently being developed to up-skill existing
qualified coaches, teachers and introduce other volunteers
to Mini Squash.
If you have any questions on the new UKCC
structure or on any aspect of coach education & development

Coaching and the development of coaches is
a key priority for Scottish Squash. To support the development
of coaches in the future and to ensure that this development
meets the needs of squash clubs, coaches and participants,
Scottish Squash is working with John Lyle Associates to
compile a coaching audit, followed by a Workforce Development
Plan. The audit will build on information we currently hold
to further establish the baseline data on the number of
qualified squash coaches, their demographic characteristics,
levels of education and certification, the level at which
they coach, their activity levels and frequency of coaching
and other relevant information on coach characteristics
and deployment.
The information gained from the audit will
allow the facilitation of a Workforce Development Plan for
Scottish Squash to aid the planning, management and the
professional development of the squash coaching workforce
across Scotland.
We appreciate you are extremely busy but would
invite you to assist us in providing as much factual evidence
as possible to ensure that the plans we develop are appropriate,
accurate and well targeted in order that we can develop
a Workforce Development Plan that will meet the future coaching
needs of our sport. Please find attached a questionnaire
for clubs and one for coaches which we would be most grateful
if you would take a few minutes to complete as fully as
you can as appropriate.
Thank you in advance for your support of this
project and if you have any queries please do not hesitate
to contact the Scottish Squash office or John Lyle Consulting
on 01670 511853.
