GUIDELINES FOR SQUASH

How to work with squash in your area:
TOP Sport Squash can be played in any suitable hall, it does NOT HAVE TO BE played in a squash court.
TOP Sport Equipment Bag contains:
16 Mini Squash Rackets
24 Mini Squash Balls
10 Instant Bounds-straight pieces
4 Instant Bounds-Corner pieces
3 Mini Space Stations
3 Sequencing Spots PLUS a copy of 'Guideline' for Junior Skills Awards

Main Aims
1. To provide a quality squash experience for children
2. To create links between local schools and local squash centres/clubs
3. To link local squash centres with Community Schemes through Local Authority SDO
4. To encourage Community TOP Sport Squash to take place in Scottish Squash affiliated Squash Centres.

What should be in place prior to delivery?
1. Agreement and action plan with Local Authority SDO
2. Suitable qualified personnel
3. A local club with a junior section

Who can deliver?
Primary school teachers who have undergone YST generic training and TOP Up Squash Training

Club coaches, parents, youth workers who have undergone YST Community training and also hold the Scottish Squash Leader's Award, Level 2 or above.

Support from Scottish Squash
1. Top Sport Squash includes eleven activity cards all suitable for disabled people
2. Junior Skills Award Scheme. 3 of the awards can be used in a hall and can be used by teachers or parents
3. Regional Development Officers
4. Junior Inter-Club Leagues

About Scottish Squash

Scottish Squash is the National Governing Body for the sport of squash in Scotland , established in 1936 and recognised by the World Squash Federation (WSF), European Squash Federation (ESF) and Sport Scotland.

Scottish Squash is responsible for the development of squash in Scotland , supporting the development of the game from clubs and grassroots level to our current and budding internationalists. In addition to this, Scottish Squash organises national and international events, co-ordinates national and representative teams, co-ordinates the national event calendar and National Leagues, supports the work of the Regional Squash Associations in developing clubs and local squash opportunities, supports and co-ordinates coach, referee and volunteer development, provides a training and support programme for talented juniors to the former world number one, supports the interests and requirements of the membership, and promotes the sport of squash.

Scottish Squash is run by a Management Board, comprising:

  • a President,
  • 3 Vice-Presidents,
  • 1 Regional Vice-President nominated by each Regional Association (Highlands, Grampian, Central, Midlands, West and East),
  • 2 co-opted voting
  • 2 co-opted non-voting individuals.

The Management Board is supported by 4 staff: Chief Operating Officer, National Performance Director, Office Administrator and Administrator (part time), and a number of consultants: book keeper, 4 Regional Development Officers and various support at the National Squash Academy based at, and supported by, Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
